Character Career Activity

2/7/2019

  • Character's Career: You MUST contact Lowther for your career option before proceeding.  These options have already been taken/assigned:
    • scientist, fashion model, artist, computer programmer, chef, ballet teacher, lawyer, construction worker, librarian, personal trainer, nurse
  • Scene: Courtroom
  • Motivation: Pleading guilty OR not guilty to a charge that will be given on Monday (improv) by the Judge
  • Written assignment:
    • WHAT (do you say)?: Research jargon (language specific to a job or career) for your character's career.  List out words or phrases your character might use as a [insert job/career].  (this can be in bullet form, informal)
    • HOW (do you speak)?: What language style would you use?  Short or long sentences?  Put-together or anxious?  Make decisions based on your research and jot down your ideas. (this can be in bullet form, informal)
    • WHY (do you speak this way)?: What is your character's backstory?  Did they really want to have this career?  Do they like their job?  What kind of day at work was it when they left to go to court today?  Think of other ideas that will shape your performance as a ROUNDED character.  (This should be in paragraph form).
  • If you play a caricature/stereotype, you will earn no more than 50%, as you are portraying a FLAT/STATIC character.  This assignment is about ROUNDED characters with potential to change.
  • Share a video that features your character as a lead in a TV show, musical, or film.  The representation must show his/her career through use of language, situation, or content.  Stereotypes will receive a zero on this portion of the assignment.
  • Due Monday, February 11, 2019
