Cohort English AP LANG

Assignments for February 27, 2017

2/26/2017

Hello, Students!

I am at the Kentucky Association for Gifted Education conference today and tomorrow, learning about interesting ways to teach you, and other amazing students like you!  Please read over the following directions, and give Mrs. Baumgardner all the respect she truly deserves.  She'll be taking over for Mrs. Wilson once the baby comes, so art students will get to know her well.

See you at rehearsals!
--Lowther

  • Check your mail for:
    • Your mock-ACT scores  (English and Reading) from January.
    • Vocabulary list, due Thursday, 03/02/17
  • Before getting to work, Caroline will present her poem, “Paradox”, which she'll perform at the state Poetry Out Loud competition next Tuesday!
    • Listen quietly, and jot down notes for Caroline on a half-sheet of paper.
    • After she is done, you may offer feedback.
    • Give Caroline your half-sheets when you are done.
    • No more than 10 minutes, total, for this portion of the class, so be wise and helpful in your comments!
  • Next, on your computer, you MUST mute your sound before clicking on the required website for today’s activity.
  • After the recitation, go to this website and complete the Practice Test 4 English, then Reading Tests.
    • You must select the TIMED version!!  25 minutes each:  English, 75 questions; Reading, 40.
    • After you make an answer choice, you need to click on the right arrow at the bottom of the question screen to advance.
    • After you're done, Edmodo me your scores on the "quiz" I posted.
  • When you're done, properly log off the Chromebook and return it to the correct slot in the cart.
  • With the remaining time after the practice test, split into the following two groups and create a skit for the vocab words.  You know how to do this, but be sure to include:
    • Sentences in proper context (LOOK UP THE DEFINITIONS!!)
    • A musical element
    • Full group participation
    • Humor
    • Give Lowther a script on Thursday.
    • Team 1: Jalam, Carlie, Serena, Will, Current, Tori, Justin, Alexis
    • Team 2: Madison, Jahde, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Kaylea, Shelby, Caleb, Caroline
  • You can write and rehearse this today, then present on Thursday. (Get as much done today as you can.  If you need more Thursday, you know I'll give it to you.)
