"Starlight Singers is an elite musical theatre ensemble for those interested in honing skills in, and performing a wide variety of, contemporary and classic musical theatre numbers. Intensive instruction will be given to members in voice, movement, dance and acting. Members will learn 15-25 songs (group, solo, duet) to perform throughout the year. "We are having one more round of auditions for this elite musical theatre group! Starlight Singers is for young people in grades 9-12 who are interested in performing contemporary and classic musical theatre numbers. Auditions are Saturday, September 30th from 4-7pm. The following is quoted directly from the Leeds Center for the Arts website: "Submit to Ellie Miller or fill out the online application found at www.leedscenter.org by September 29, 2017. Leeds Center for the Arts is a non-profit arts organization in Winchester, KY whose mission is to energize the community through the beauty and the power of the arts. Leeds serves the community by providing not only a facility where the performing arts may grow, but also as a catalyst to further revitalize the downtown Winchester area. The Leeds Youth Advisory Board will be comprised of high school students that care deeply about not only the arts, but are leaders who are motivated to work with each other and the community on arts – based projects. The Leeds YAB will meet monthly to discuss collaborative outreach projects, short – term and long – term goals, partnership prospects, and leadership in all aspects of the arts. The Leeds YAB will serve as an extraordinary leadership and collaborative opportunity for our area youth leaders. Simply put, the Leeds YAB will be a team of likeminded individuals poised to raise awareness and promote the arts throughout not only our community, but the region. The Leeds YAB will meet on Wednesdays bi-weekly from 6-7 P.M. for project brainstorming and collaboration. They will be expected to commit 10 hours per month of time to the Youth Advisory Board." "YoungArts is now accepting applications for its 2017 national arts competition, which offers students up to $10,000 in cash awards, mentorship and professional support, and opportunities to take master classes taught by accomplished artists. U.S. student artists ages 15-18, working in a wide-range of disciplines – including dance, theater, visual arts and writing, among others – are eligible to apply. The deadline for applications is Oct. 13." Three Kentucky students earned awards in the 2017 competition --you could be next! Need 5-1/2 volunteer hours (or more)? The following is quoted and adapted from an email sent to Lowther. "The attraction is called Spirits Over Stoner Haunted Corn Maze. We're a brand new full-scale attraction that boasts a 5-acre corn maze and deep thickets of wood. Location: 860 Spears Mill Rd, Paris, Ky Dates: Every Friday and Saturday in October, and Halloween Night Time: Sundown - midnight (actors will need to be present by 6:30pm). We'd be happy to have some of your students out to act. The work is entirely volunteer, and we provide food, drink, and costumes.
